Some friends and I skied this classic 7-day hut tour in 1995. There are many variations to the Haute Route, depending upon time and conditions.

We started in Argentiere and rode the cable car up to Grand Montet from where we toured to the Trient Hut. In the morning, we skied out to Champex then rode buses and lifts to reach the Mont Fort Hut near Verbier (actually in the ski area).

The next day to the Dix Hut is brutally long but very scenic. We took a break and skied out to Arolla for a night and then continued on to the Vignette Hut. Then it was on to Zermatt (alas, the Matterhorn was enshrouded). The final day we rode the train to Gornergrat and cable cars to the Stockhorn and then skied to the Britannia Hut and on into Saas Fee.
